We are delighted to welcome Sarah Hewitt, award-winning author and illustrator to the Writing Coach as one of our consultants.

In the world of children’s books, some creators have a rare ability to blend storytelling, artistry, and emotion into something timeless. Sarah Hewitt is one of those people – an author, illustrator, and mentor whose work overflows with warmth, colour, and care.
Sarah brings more than 25 years of experience in publishing to her work as both a picture book creator and a creative mentor. After earning her Master’s in Children’s Book Illustration from the Cambridge School of Art, she developed a distinctive process that combines traditional drawing and painting with digital refinement – giving her illustrations both texture and modern clarity.
From her touching story The Sleeping Garden to the whimsical adventure The Cornish Pasty Pirates, Sarah’s books capture imagination and empathy in equal measure. Her latest title, Anna’s Garden (Tiny Tree), explores themes of kindness, self-acceptance, and neurodiversity – inviting readers to see the beauty in being different.
In addition to creating books, we are delighted to welcome Sarah as a mentor at The Writing Coach. Sarah is available to help other authors and illustrators shape their own creative journeys. Her guidance is rooted in empathy and a deep understanding of how words and images can work together to tell authentic stories.
Her decades of experience in publishing services, including copyright permissions and picture research, give her a unique insight into both the art and business of making books. She’s helped countless creators bridge that gap between creative dream and finished publication.
On her official site, Books by Sarah, you’ll find an enchanting gallery of her work – from Clara the Rhino to Grandad, Reema and the Rhino, and more. The site also features poetry and art by her late daughter, Bethany Johnson, a touching inclusion that reflects Sarah’s deep belief in the power of creativity to connect and heal.
She continues to take on illustration and fine art commissions, as well as professional work as a permissions consultant – all while nurturing the next generation of picture-book creators.
What sets Sarah apart is her gentle determination to make stories that matter. Her books, illustrations, and mentoring all share the same heartbeat – compassion, curiosity, and a belief that creativity can change how we see ourselves and each other.
As both an artist and guide, Sarah Hewitt reminds us that stories aren’t just told; they’re grown, with patience and purpose.
